The Queens Diamond Jubilee

Her Majesty The Queen celebrates Her

diamond jubilee this month. Sixty years of
dedicated service to Her subjects here in

the United Kingdom and throughout the
commonwealth. Feed The Children (UK)

extend our heartfelt congratulations on this
special occasion and to celebrate this major

event we would like to invite you to join
with us and help sixty children here in the

UK living in areas of deprivation and sixty
children living in abject poverty overseas.

In 1952 the cost of this stamp was 3d (old
pence), at today's value it would buy a meal!

At home we run breakfast clubs at schools in

areas of deprivation where we provide a

nutritious breakfast which includes cereal,

milk, toast, butter, fruit and fruit juice each

day. Over twenty percent of school children

do not get the opportunity to eat breakfast

before going to school with as much as 28%

not sitting down together as a family to eat

any meal. These figures are considerably higher in the poor areas where we

run our Breakfast Clubs.

We are helping children at a crucial formative stage in their lives, creating a

daily opportunity to influence their outlook on life and possible attitudes that

they will carry on into adulthood. Not having breakfast not only reduces their

levels of concentration but also has a detrimental affect on their behaviour

which affects other pupils, the school and the community at large. We believe

our breakfast clubs are providing a key social springboard for children who

are not only deprived of food but also of the motivation to learn, and

consequent loss of reaching their potential for the future.

In the developing world it is not a surprise to find a family living in a small

poorly constructed room or a mud hut. Children are “cared for” with little

more than a roof over their heads. They have no toys or books. They
have no bikes to ride; no ropes to skip with; no balls to throw to each

other. At school letters and simple words on handmade signs cover

cracked walls. Made by teachers, these sometimes colourful signs use
bottle caps to teach numbers or bright red string to etch out words.

At lunch time, the children dig into whatever small morsel of food their

mother has been able to provide. And after they eat, they are still hungry.

But these are the fortunate children. Their mothers have a few pennies to
provide care each day. In the slums children sit alone, in the dark, waiting

for the sound of their mothers return with the hope of something to eat.

Life expectancy is not high in the slums and badly malnourished children

are at greater risk of life threatening diseases but with nourishing food

they stand a chance. We can help these poor desperate children with food

today. Together, you and I can make a life-changing difference for so many

children.

In the UK

£8 provides a child with breakfast for a month
£2 provides a child with breakfast for a week
£76 provides a child with breakfast for a school year

In the slums

£10provides food for two children for a month
£5 provides food for a child for a month
£60 feeds a child for a year

We have the chance to change

people’s lives from now!

So please, send your gift as soon as you can.

Thank you so much for caring and helping

to provide a future

Yours Sincerely
