Loaded Lorry

INNER WHEEL LADIES LOAD A LORRY

Ladies from District 18 Inner Wheel, which includes clubs from Southport in the north of the district down to Llanidloes in the south, have completed their annual Load A Lorry for Feed The Children (UK). Hundreds of boxes containing much needed goods, such as dried foods, educational materials and toiletries, were all brought to the District 18’s annual overseas rally at Llangollen International Eisteddfod Pavilion in North Wales.

Feed The Children’s operations manager, David Paddick, drove the lorry up from the charity’s base in Twyford near Reading and spent several hours filling it with the donated goods and a large area of the Pavilion’s car park was needed to allow the goods to be sorted and loaded onto pallets.  To make Dave’s job easier, the ladies helpfully labelled all the boxes so that he knew what goods they contained, leaving Dave to sort them by size and weight.  Each club also contributes to the cost of the lorry and onward shipping and £500 was raised this year to pay for it.

At the conference, Gill Edwards, the charity’s fundraising manager for Wales, addressed the delegates, thanking them for their years of ongoing support and promising to speak at their individual clubs over the coming year.  Gill reminded them of the important part they play in ensuring that this vital aid reaches the most vulnerable children in the world and thanked District 18 for all their efforts.

Feed The Children works worldwide, as well as within the UK, to develop sustainable communities and provide food and other necessities for those in great need.  The charity concentrates aid on children suffering the effects of poverty, especially those who have been orphaned or abandoned. The charity believes that wherever there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it is always the children who are most vulnerable.
