CAVERSHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL SUPPORT SAPLINGS PROJECT WITH £306.67
Feed The Children’s regional fundraiser, Ros Fahy, visited Caversham Primary School recently to give a talk about the charity’s tree sapling project in Uganda. Whilst she was there the school themed their harvest day around ‘Apple’ harvest and had made it a fun event with the whole school dressing up as bees!
Before Ros started her talk she had a surprise presentation of a cheque for £125 from three of the school children. The cheque represented money donated from a birthday party. Three girls, Isobel Yarwood, Becky Stone and Martha Ingledew, had asked their friends to donate money to Feed The Children (UK) rather than giving them gifts.
Each of the girls have received a thank you certificate for their kind donations and once the school has finished selling the Saplings Ribbons, Ros will collect the boxes from the school.
Brian Main, the charity’s chief executive, says, “The campaign highlights the crucial role trees play both here and in Africa, including energy and carbon offset. People can use Feed The Children’s simple carbon footprint questionnaire at www.feedthechildren.org.uk.”
80% of rural Africans depend on wood for fuel, but in some parts of Africa, trees are becoming scarce due to nomadic habits and pressures of population growth. The saplings project and trees in general can give triple benefits – nutrition, fuel and employment.
