AID IS ON ITS WAY TO PAKISTAN AND MORE IS NEEDED

Twyford-based Feed The Children (UK) has already sent equipment to Pakistan to provide 300 families with safe clean drinking water over the next 6 months. Space available on two cargo planes has enabled the charity to get help to desperate flood victims quickly.
The situation in Pakistan is dire with 1,600 people being reported dead, 20 million affected by the floods and 4 million homeless. Disease is now likely to be another problem with 3.5 million children at risk from contaminated water and insects and 36,000 people so far are being treated for Cholera.
Feed The Children was able to send 300 water purification boxes that also contain some badly needed everyday items. Each box purifies 75 litres of water at a time and there are enough purification tablets and filters to provide a family of four with clean safe drinking water for six months. Items such as a bucket, toiletries and hygiene products as well as cooking utensils, plastic plates/cups, etc. cutlery, basic hand tools and many more everyday items were included in the boxes.
The Province of Pakhtoonkwa, formerly the North West Frontier, is one of the worst affected and 500 of the 1,600 deaths have occurred in this region. Feed The Children’s work will be in Charsadda District of Pakhtoonkwa Province.
Says Feed The Children’s CEO, Brian Main, “We’re elated to have found room on a cargo plane for the units that will immediately help so many people. We have had a wonderful response so far from our supporters and we want to help more by sending out a container as soon as possible. If anyone can help us with this appeal please ring us on 0118 9320095 or visit our website www.feedthechildren.org.uk.”
