FEED THE CHILDREN (UK) NEEDS YOU TO HELP THEM HELP PAKISTAN
A plea to help save people in Pakistan dying from lack of food and clean water has gone out from local charity Feed The Children (UK). The charity has already responded to the crisis, as they did to last year’s floods, by sending water purification equipment donated by Rotary Aquabox.
“We need money to send more aid,” explains the charity’s chief executive officer, Brain Main. “Many will remember the torrential floods that hit Pakistan last year killing thousands of people, but the survivors now need our help more than ever following more torrential rain. Around 4m acres are under water. Dead animals, sewerage and other detritus make the water undrinkable - but when you are thirsty you take the chance.”
Floodwater has spread over much of the southern Sindh province engulfing villages and crops, destroying lives and infrastructure. The numbers now affected by the monsoon rains are staggering. It is estimated that more than 7.5m people have been affected including 2.5m children and the figure could rise. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) estimates about 3m are critically short of food whilst more than a million houses have been damaged or destroyed.
