WE DO FEED THE CHILDREN – NOT THE GOVERNMENT

We do feed the children!

Following the BBC’s Panorama report on TV on Monday (24th November), the chief executive of children’s charity Feed The Children UK, Brian Main, says, “The BBC has vindicated the way we work. The money and goods donated to us go direct to the communities that need them and not through government agencies.”

The programme investigated how aid destined for some of the poorest people in the world appeared to end up being used for other purposes. By contrast Feed The Children UK sends vital goods and supplies direct to those in need, working through trusted partners in the donor country – partners who are accountable to the charity for the aid received.

“Feed The Children does just that – every year feeding and sustaining over 100,000 children in Africa. Alongside disaster relief, our projects help to build up local communities so that they can survive and grow, using their own resources. This adds up to a way out of poverty that can be sustained,” adds Brian.

“Feed The Children UK is too small to receive funding from the Disasters Emergency Committee but our approach has seen many people turn to us to add their support – because they can see the difference we make on the ground, where it really counts.”

Feed The Children works worldwide, as well as within the UK, to develop sustainable communities and provide food and other necessities for those in great need.  The charity concentrates aid on children suffering the effects of poverty, especially those orphaned or abandoned. The charity believes that wherever there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it is always the children who are most vulnerable.

Feed The Children UK began in 1989 and over the years the charity has helped millions of children and their families both at home and abroad. The charity relies on gifts from generous companies, individuals and organisations to donate the goods and financial assistance needed in order to support the various humanitarian and relief projects.
