Exceptionally heavy monsoon rains in different parts of the country have wrought havoc to the lives of people especially the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK), Punjab, Balochistan & the AJK who are among the worst affected areas. Many lives were lost while thousands more people were displaced due to floods. With bridges washed away at various places; communication channels lost; crops have been destroyed and the peoples livelihood is badly affected.

In October 2005, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale hit the Hindu Kush mountain range, in northern Pakistan and Kashmir, causing the death of around 74,000 people, and leaving more than three million people homeless.

The earthquake of 8th October 2005 left many children without parents and many of those also suffered the loss of limbs.
